Eight Foreign Ministers to Lapland
Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb will host several European colleagues at an informal meeting in Saariselkä, Finnish Lapland on 12–14 March. The seminar in Lapland, organised at the invitation of Foreign Minister Stubb, will be attended by Catherine Ashton, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and by the Foreign Ministers of Estonia, France, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Turkey.
Preparation of the Europe 2020 Strategy
The new Europe 2020 Strategy was launched to continue work on growth and jobs after the expiry of the Lisbon Strategy. The European Commission issued its proposal for the strategy on 3 March. The main aim of the strategy is to go out of the crisis and prepare EU economy for the next decade. The three key drivers for growth identified by the Commission are smart growth, sustainable growth and inclusive growth. The European Council is to endorse the strategy in June 2010.
Cabinet Committee on European Union Affairs
The Cabinet Committee on European Union Affairs usually meets on Friday mornings. After the Cabinet Committee meeting, the Government Communications Unit holds a weekly briefing for representatives of media on the issues discussed by the Cabinet Committee.
